Well maybe the best way to describe Christian Meditation is to tell what it is not. Christian meditation should never be confused with Eastern forms of meditation such as yoga, Hindu, and Buddhism. Also, any form of New Age meditation such as Transcendental meditation, and focusing on the ‘Now’ are an antithesis practice compared to christian meditation.
Transcendental meditation is just a new spin on Eastern meditation and the latest emphasis on the ‘now’ is just a new way to look at a form of Buddhism. Major differences that offsets Eastern meditation with Christian meditation is the point of focus. Eastern meditation focuses on a mantra that leads one to emptiness, enlightenment, magical components, or ancient Hindu or Buddhist gods.
Christians meditate on words, phrases, Scriptures, certain passages, and or concepts about God. Their goal is to focus on or things about God with an attempt to understand and/or gain a closeness to Him.
